« Green Week ~ 4 | Main | Two years old! »

Final bit o' green

It was my intention to add one last submission for Green Week on Friday, but we had a long and busy day, followed by me, and then James, being hit with the worst cold I may have ever had. The entire weekend was spent in bed, resting, nursing, and watching two movies multiple times (this one three times, this one just twice). An aside to you P&P fans -- I'm beginning to fear that I might be Mrs Bennet. I had to get my husband to drag the television and DVD player into our bedroom (for the first time in 6 years!) since we don't normally have one in there. I also resorted to fever reducers, which I (at least theoretically) try to avoid in all but the most dire of circumstances. So you can see that we've been quite sick.

last day of green week

We're a little bit better today, which is good, because there's a big birthday on Wednesday and gifts still remain to be made. I have been finding myself thinking a lot, in these past few days of laying in bed, of that snowy Sunday morning two years ago when this little boy (taken on his first birthday) joined our lives, and the days following his birth when he and I lay in my bed, looked out the window, nursed, and fell in love.

As a synesthete, I have strong and very concrete color associations for letters, numbers, months, days of the week, and people in my life. James was and is green to me, so I think that having a week of Green up to his birthday was so very fitting, although I felt that my green submissions were less inspired than I would have hoped. It was my "first week", though, so I'll cut myself a bit of slack. I think part of my lack of inspiration was that I was not really in the same place (geographically, seasonally, etc.) as many of the others playing -- as Emily described in her final green post, she wanted to honor the end of the last long month of winter (February) and the beginning of spring. Of course, where I live (at a very high altitude), spring hits in mid-April, and March is actually the last month of winter. So in about one month, I should be ready for a full-on green week, I think. ;)

So, about my two greens shared today -- James's Sigg water bottle, which is green, for James, and also "green", for the environment. Reducing consumption, waste, and the use of plastics are very important to me. Maybe not in that order. Use of plastics might be number one for me. There is something about plastic that makes me cringe a little bit. But that's another post altogether. The other green in this post -- we've had a few great family play nights recently. I've been thinking so very much about the importance of play in our lives and the lives of our children, what its rightful place ought to be, and so on. I'm working a post up on those thoughts. But I thought I'd share this photo now with its greens.

OK, back to bed for me now. I don't expect to post tomorrow, as I need to save all energy for getting well and making birthday gifts, but I do expect to post in honor of my big boy's second birthday on Wednesday. See you then, dear friends!

I hope you feel better soon and have a great birthday week. I also tried to do green week for some silly reason. How about another green week in mid-April? Around here, the leaves aren't fully developed on the trees until mid-May....

hey, I *just* got back from the library with the Anne of Green Gables DVDs (I was too lazy to dig out my old VHS copies). I see I'm in good company! They certainly were a favorite of mine as a child (the books even more).

I hope you all are feeling better soon!

i should have known that you love anne, too! (except did you see the 'new' one? what lameness!)

I love that little cow.

For all my love of colour I have never heard of synsesthete. I did find that amazing. I am wondering if it would help Ella learn the piano a little easier. She wants to play and is very creative but can't remember how to read the music. Do you know where I can find any more information. Obviously, it changes from person to person.
The little animal set is beautiful.

a few months ago, i heard a fascinating piece on npr about synesthesia - the first time i had heard of it. fascinating, really. (it was an interview with a woman who recently wrote a book about her experience with synesthesia - do you know about the book? i could probably find the name for you if you're interested.)

and sigg. we converted to sigg from nalgene. a few months ago. safer. and they're so cute, too.

chicken-soup-y love to you.

I so hope you feel better soon. Colds are NOT fun! Your little farm set does look so fun, however. I made a similar set for my son for Christmas...Unfortunately, some of the legs have fallen off the cows. I didn't realize that you shouldn't cut against the grain for the legs....Anyhow, I'll try again.
I hope you get some rest and recuperate quickly. I love your blog!

We go nowhere without our SIGG bottles!!
Feel better!
Happy (belated) birthday you young'n!!

I see we have similar movie tastes! I know the Anne of GG movies backwards and forwards. I finally made my husband watch them with me at some point, and he couldn't sit through them--he said they were scary because he could see so much of me in them! I've been wanting to re-watch the new P&P, as I've only seen it once. As a fan of the BBC version, I was skeptical that it could live up to my expectations, but I LOVED it! Just last night I saw Sense and Sensibility for the first time in a LONG time... It was good, but not as good as P&P. Enjoy Once! It's not like any movie I've ever seen...

I'm so sorry to hear that you're sick!! I wish we were neighbors. I would bring you over a pot of chicken soup and watch E&J while you rested. I hope you feel better soon. I sent those patterns out yesterday. Sorry for the delay. I completely forgot about them in my crazed state :p

You have great taste in movies. :-)
So sorry you have been sick- and James too. It's hard with kids. Feel lots better!

So sorry there is sickness at your house. We have a bit of it here too. And we also watched P&P this weekend too, how wierd is that?
Hope you feel better soon and happy birthday week to little James!

So sorry you all have been ill-feel better soon!!! I love P&P too!!! We are Sigg users as well. I got some individual little totes at the grocery on sale to carry them in that keep them cool or hot as needed and allow them to clip onto things. I *heart* SIGG! My little boy just saw the photo you posted of your son's and he said "Hey, that looks like my water bottle...except it has cars! Cool." :) Happy b-day to your little boy!

feel better soon, sending chicken soup vibes your way.

Grace,
thanks for visiting my blog! I love your green week posts, the last photo is my favorite!
I'm off to check out info about SIGG, my two little one always insist on having water with them and the plastic bothers me too!
Hoping you're fever free ~
~Kris

oh grace! we all had it two weeks ago and we're all still recovering. I'm not sure any of us, except emma are 100%.

I hope you're feeling better. Staying in bed sounds like the best medicine.

Love the SIGG water bottle. I got them this year for the girls, then my dad, and just a week ago, one for Dan. I'm slowly converting everyone around me.

feel better. xoxoxxx!

Oh! I hope that you are feeling better. This has been such a terrible winter for the colds and flus. I can't remember one quite like it. By the way, what are those green arches over the top of the Ostheimer cow? I don't know if I've seen those before...
